Dentistry Services for the Whole Family

Your children’s teeth need just as much care as an adult’s, which is why they receive the same treatments and care in their comprehensive oral exams. At Dolman Dental, we offer a wide range of treatment options. The right treatment for your child will depend on many factors, however, what is most important is creating a trusting relationship between your family and your dentist.

We tailor your child’s appointment to their age and stage of development. Exams can range from simply getting comfortable in the chair to complete radiographs and cleaning your child's teeth.

Comprehensive Oral Exam

Orthodontic Screening As your child develops more teeth, you can expect our dentists to perform an orthodontic screening.  We look at the alignment and spacing of their teeth. Our friendly and knowledgeable team will also help you prepare for potential orthodontic intervention should it be required.

Airway Screening An airway screening is also a routine part of our exams. We evaluate their tongue and lip ties, tongue position as well as tonsil tissue and mouth breathing. These are all important aspects to review to help reduce the risk of future airway problems like snoring and sleep apnea.

Teeth Cleaning

Children can develop plaque and tatar build up just like adults can. We provide comprehensive home care to parents and children. A good rule of thumb is if your child cannot tie their shoes they are not ready to brush their teeth on their own! Even after that point, it is always best to check their teeth after they have brushed them themselves!

Fillings

50% of children develop cavities by the age of 5. Often people think that there is no need to preserve a baby tooth that has a hole in it. Actually, these baby teeth provide important functions like eating and holding a space for adult teeth to grow.

We can help preserve baby teeth with cavities with the right filling materials. A baby tooth is much different from an adult tooth as they have a thinner layer of enamel and a larger nerve. Traditional tooth-coloured fillings like to stick to enamel. So instead, we use a specially selected tooth-coloured material that can stick to a baby tooth with less enamel and is biocompatible.

"No Drill" Fillings

Our “No Drill” fillings or ART (Atraumatic Restorative Treatment) can be used in some situations on baby teeth. The decayed portion of the tooth is removed using hand instruments or a material called silver diamine fluoride is painted on the tooth to help stop cavity growth. A filling is then placed over the cavity to create a smooth surface.

Sealants

Dental sealants are used to seal and protect the deep grooves that can be found on your children’s teeth. The sealant acts as a barrier to prevent bacteria and food debris from sticking to their teeth. This helps to prevent tooth decay and cavities in children, especially those at a risk for tooth decay.

Sedation

Unlike the variety of options for adult sedation, we only provide N2O (laughing gas) to our pediatric patients. It is an odourless gas which is inhaled through a mask on the nose. It helps children feel more comfortable about going through a dental procedure and it can help with gagging issues. After 5 minutes of inhaling pure oxygen at the end of the appointment, the drug has left their body.
